Main Scriptures: Ephesians 5:1-2
More Scriptures: I Thess. 4:9, I Jn.3:16, Heb.7:27
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children. And walk in love as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour. Eph.5:1-2. As the head of the family, it is very important for you to appreciate the two dimensions to the commandment God gave to you. God has commanded you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church. But what constitutes the love component? From our main text today, the Scriptures tell us that as followers of God, and leaders who desire that our followers will follow us, we must love our flocks even as Christ has loved the church. Very importantly, love is both an offering and a sacrifice. It is an offering because you give it to your wife and children cheerfully, willing and delightsomely. The same way you give your offering in church is the same way you should give the virtues of love to your flocks. It is also a sacrifice because it cost you something to give it, especially when those you give it do not seem to deserve it. Take this scenario for example, for you to give your wife your one and only car to drive in order to make her comfortable, while you go with public transport is a huge sacrifice. If you have to forgo those appointments at the garden bar in order to be with your wife is a great sacrifice. This is what you must appreciate as the head of the family if you want to want to enjoy heaven on earth in your home and between you and your flocks. Most times, a lot of husbands think they are doing their wives a favour when they extend some virtues of love. Some others believe that it is optional to love their flocks. However, if you want to succeed as the head of your family and you desire tremendous transformation in the lives of your flocks, you must consciously and deliberately give love to your wife both as an offering and a sacrifice. When you do this faithfully, both your wife and children will follow you, just as you are a follower of God because He gave us His love both as a sacrifice and an offering (Eph.1:1b)
· Father, empower me to keep love in my heart both as an offering and a sacrifice
· Father, lift me up with grace to extend love to my flocks
· Father, destroy the power of hatred and bitterness in my life
I lift up the banner of love as an offering and a sacrifice over my wife and children because I want to be a good and godly husband to them in Jesus name. Amen.
