For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. This is the main text for today’s devotional. It was the concluding statement Jesus Christ made to His disciples after He had washed their feet. He washed their feet to communicate to them the importance of example. That as much as talk is important, conduct is much more important. As a husband and father, what you do makes much greater impact in the lives of your wife and children more than what you say. This is particularly critical to all pastors and founders of ministries. A lot of the times, what we preach on the pulpit is different from what we do to our flocks at home. You preach that your members must not hold grudges against one another, but you the preacher holds grudges against your wife and children. Your must be the example that your wife and children want to emulate. In our main text today Jesus Christ, the perfect example of how husbands are expected to behave said I have given you an example that you should so as I have done to you. The question you must ask yourself today as a leader is, “has my life been a worthy example to my flocks for them to copy?” You cannot shout at your wife that she is not submissive when you are disobedient to the instructions of God. You cannot tell your children to tell the truth when they see you lie over very simple thing. This places on you as the head of your family so much responsibility to behave rightly and conduct yourself with so much dignity and honour. But how do I develop myself to be a perfect example to my wife and children and by extension to the world around me? First, you must be willing and determined to put your body under. And this you achieve through the twin force of prayers and fasting. Secondly, you must maintain continuous fellowship with the Person of the Holy Spirit. Without Him, you cannot live out the very life of Jesus for your flocks to see. When you surrender your all to Him, He empowers you to do what is right and say what is true
§ Father, make my life a good example to my flocks.
§ Father, deliver me from double life, deceit and untruthfulness.
§ Father, empower my life with Your own life and live through me.
I no longer live my old life, Jesus Christ now lives in me and He is working through me to be a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
