FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH AND THE GIFT OF GOD IS LIFE EVERLASTING. This sounds like a death sentence passed by a judge on a criminal. Yes, and that is what the Holy Spirit is communicating to a husband reading this devotional today. As the head of your family and the spiritual authourity over your wife and children, the rewards you get for engaging in sinful practices is death-physical and spiritual. Some husbands have died physically because they got hooked up with the strange woman. They commit adultery, murder and have ended up in hell. You must understand that sin is not what you must tolerate as a leader, however popular it may be. No social trend or popular view can substitute for living a holy life. As a husband, you are representing God in your family fold. And God is holy, so He expects you to be holy. In Psalms chapter 96 and verses 7 to 9, God is described as a holy God. Holiness is a beautiful virtue that you must covet as a husband. Sin is not attractive. Sin does not give any value addition. Sin brings shame to and sinks the sinner. In Acts chapter 5, the Word of God gives a graphic picture of what sin can do to the generation of any husband. Ananias was a husband like you and I. He sold a parcel of land that belongs to him and his family. Rather than present the true picture to the church, he lied. Not only did he lie, he also conscripted his wife into the sin of lying. Sadly, he and his wife died disgracefully. This is what sin can do to a life and generation. It was the husband that lied but his wife paid for the consequences. There are so many husbands in Scriptures who not only paid dearly for living sinful lives; they created destructive paths for generations after them. Husbands, you must rise up in battle to live above the force of sin. God’s word says that sin shall not have dominion over me. To overcome the wages of sin, you must not be willing to work for sin. And this you can achieve by feeding your life regularly with the word of God. The more of God’s word that you allow into your heart and which you give complete power, the more empowered you would become to refuse sin when it presents itself.
§ Father, I surrender my whole being to You and declare You Lord over my life.
§ Father, baptise me with the spirit of holiness and meekness.
§ Father, deliver me from the deceitfulness of sin and its attractions.
I am born by the Spirit of God and sin shall not have dominion over me because I am transformed by the Spirit of God to be a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
