Main Scriptures: Zechariah 11:15-17

More Scriptures: Ephesians 5:23, John 10:3, 2 Timothy 3:5

Yesterday, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we were taught as husbands that we are shepherds. We recognized also that we are not only shepherds, but we are ordained shepherds. However, today, let us consider something very interesting from Zechariah 11: 15; 17. The Scripture says, and the Lord said unto me, take unto thee yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd. Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock. The sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye, his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened. Now from these verses of the Scripturetwo things are clearly evident. First, there are two types of shepherds that God mentioned- a foolish husband and an idol shepherd. God described these shepherds the way He did because of their character and irresponsibility. Now a foolish husband lacks the ability to lead his wife and children. He lacks the wisdom to influence his wife and children for God. He doesn’t know when to talk, how to talk and what to say. As for the idol shepherd, he leads his family into cultism. He initiates his family’s lineage into devilish oath thereby putting his present and future generations in jeopardy. A situation where his family experiences untimely deaths, repeated accidents, unexplained crises, continuous setbacks, barrenness, stagnation, career instability, divorce, terminal diseases and so many more damages. Sometime ago, I met a man whose wife had gone to court to seek the dissolution oher marriage with him. I encouraged him to seek reconciliation, which he accepted. Sadly the fatherin-law didn’t want that to happen. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that his father-in-law had sacrificed his daughters to the idols, to the extent that none of his daughters can remain in their homes. Evidently, all his daughters have left their homes and husbands and have returned to the home of their father. That is an example oan idol shepherd. Unfortunate, this is the consequence of behaving foolishly.

  • Father, cleanse me by the power in the blood of Jesus and give me a new life.

  • Father, make an instrument of positive and godly change in the lives of my flock.

  • Father, empower me by Your Spirit to think, talk and act like You would.

I renew my commitment and determination to be a good and godly shepherd to my sheep in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
