If you have ever bought a refrigerator, you will see this inscription on the body of the carton-turn this way. Now, this instruction is to protect the equipment from being damaged. And this is what the Person of the Holy Spirit is saying to a husband reading this devotional today. There is a way you ought to handle your wife and children, if you want to avoid any damage to their lives-spirit, soul and body. Just the same way your refrigerator may develop complications if you disobey the instruction of turning it in a particular way, so it is with you when you upturn God’s prescription as to how to live and handle your wife and children. But you may want to ask how do I turn my wife and children in the way of the Lord Jesus Christ? You turn them in the way of God first by being humble. Humility is not the state of your heart. And one of the evidences of a humble person is the willingness to accept corrections and be teachable. The Bible reaffirms that God gives grace to the humble and not the proud person. It is true that you are the head of your family. It is also true that you are the man of authority. However, you must appreciate the truth that you also a man under the authority of Jesus Christ. A life of humility will give you access to greater wisdom of God that will give the power to treat your flocks as God would. Secondly, you must learn to follow the instructions of God, whether or not it makes sense. A lot of the times, the instructions God gives you to do when it comes to your relationship with your wife and children always do make logically sense. For instance, in Colossians 3:19, the Scripture says, husband love your wife and be not bitter against her. Now does this instruction make any human sense to you when moment ago your wife insulted and disrespected you, or even embarrassed you? No it doesn’t. Yet, it makes god-sense, because the foolishness of God is higher than the wisdom of man. In this instruction lies your peace. Thirdly, you must be committed to your wife and children and be disciplined. And when you take time to turn your flocks in the way of the Lord, God will give you and your family a name and fame on the earth. You will also enjoy peace at old age.
· Father, by Your Spirit, help me to turn my flocks in the direction that pleases You
· Father,, lift me up and help me to overcome bitterness
· Father, by Your grace, teach me how to forgive my wife and children always.
I am committed to turn my wife and children in ways pleasing to God because I am a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
