I want to share my testimony with every husband and hope that you will learn from it. I was driving my children to school early in the morning and while we were few meters away from the estate where I live, my second child complained to me that she was not giving her empty tin to take to school by her mum. She was asked to come to school with a tin of milk to make drum. I responded and asked her if she told her mum. And she said yes. I went further to ask why she was not giving the tin to take to school by my wife. I was sincerely angry in my heart because I place a high value on education. I always insist on prompt response to every instruction that comes from the school. But within me I had to put my thoughts in check by not speaking words that may make their mother appear unserious or uninterested in their education. But later I did find out from my wife and she explained to me that she had promised to get it for her the following week which was within the time frame the school wanted it. As the head of the family, you must continue to work on your emotions to bring it under control. A lot of husbands have allowed their emotions to override their spiritual sensibility and made them to act in ways that are contrary to God’s expectations. Now look at what the Scriptures say in II Cor.10:5. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. There are many imaginations that come to play in your heart when your wife or children offends you-thought of revenge, denial, and withdrawal of your goodwill, bitterness and much more. But as the spiritual leader of your family and the shepherd of your wife and children, you must resist any thought that does not agree with God’s commandments. But how do I bring my thought to obey the commandments of Jesus Christ, Who is my mentor as a husband? Principally, you do this by walking in the Spirit. The Scriptures say he that walks in the Spirit shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. And how do you walk with the Spirit? You walk in the Spirit by allowing the knowledge of God’s word to gain deep roots in your heart, through your continued interaction with God in prayers, fasting and word study. When you grow to have your body, which represents your flesh and emotions, under control, you will wear a crown of glory. In Heb.2:7, Scriptures say thou crownedst him with glory and honour. And in Jas.1:12, it says he shall receive the crown of life. Husbands, you have everything to gain when you restrain yourself from acting foolishly-spiritually, mentally and physically. It adds colour and life to your relationship with your wife and children. You are a honourable husband and spiritual leader. Enjoy your position!
· Father, empower me with supernatural power to overcome my flesh
· Father, by Your blood make me win over the battle of the flesh
· Father, empower me by Your Spirit to continue to walk in the Spirit to obey You.
I overcome my flesh by His blood because I am a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen
