Prophecy: there is a husband reading this devotional today, and you have been told to send your wife and children away. Infact, you have been advised by your parents and relations to send your wife and children away to the village. There is another husband who has been asked to send his children away because of the new wife that is coming in. There is yet another husband who has been told to send his wife away because she has not been able to give birth. The Holy Spirit is saying, it is true that the pressure on you is tremendous. But He is saying you must not do the bidding of those who have advised you to send your flocks away.
That is the word of the Lord for you today. In our reading today, Jesus was also under some pressure. He had just finished a major crusade with a large crowd that attended. Infact, Jesus had given everything-His prayers, time and body, to the people following Him. And now the people who had followed Jesus Christ were at a critical point-they needed food because they were hungry. And when the day was now far spent, his disciples came unto him, and said, this is a desert place, and now the time is far passed (Mk.6:35). Jesus and His disciples were obviously very tired, and His disciples wanted to dispense with those following them. But Jesus, being Who He is and an example of how husbands must behave, did not want to give in to the pressure of the people and those close to Him. He was moved with compassion on the people. Now read what those closest to Him told Him in verse 36 of our main text, send them away that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves bread…. Note the word themselves. Those closest to Him wanted Him to send the flowers to go and sort out their lives on their own. As the head of the family, you are not called to send your wife or children away to care for themselves. You are their head to care for them as their spiritual leader. You may be under pressure to send your flocks away. But don’t agree with those who have given you such suggestion, irrespective of who they are and notwithstanding the gravity of your wife and children’s offence. Sending your flocks away is not the attitude of a good and godly husband. It is the character of a hireling. Now, what do I do if I refuse to listen to my relations or fiends to send my flocks away? Let us see what Jesus did, as a husband and shepherd. First, He looked inward to find out what they have (Mk.6:37). Secondly, He took authority over the reason for the pressure by commanding them to sit down (Mk.6:38). You can act in the same over that issue that is responsible for the pressure to send your wife or children away. You have not lost everything about your wife and children. There is still something you can salvage from them. The issue may be the health of your flock, unfruitfulness of your wife or ungodliness. Whatever, it is, command the spirit out of their lives.
Father, fill me with the spirit of hope, faith and compassion. Father, deliver me from peer pressure. Father, embolden my spirit to stick to Your Word in all things.
I refuse to give in to worldly pressure to send my wife or child (ren) away because I am determined to be a good and godly husband to them in Jesus name. Amen.
