You Cannot Prevail By Strength

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Lev.26:20

More Scriptures: Lk.18:1, 1Tim.5:17, Jas.5:15

And your strength shall be spent in vain, for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. (Lev.26:20). I was in church and the Holy Spirit began to teach me how futile it is for any husband to think he can prevail over his flock by strength. He said to me “no husband can ever prevail over his wife by strength”. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader and prophet over your flock, you need much more than your physical strength to get your wife and children to do what you want and to have them keeping doing what you want. The Scripture tells us that by strength shall no man prevail.

The fact that you are a man and physically built up will not guarantee your victories over the challenges you may be having with your wife and children. But how do I prevail as a husband and leader? You win by intercession. Prevailing prayer life is your best alternative to ruling well as an elder (1Tim.5:17). In Jas.5:16, the Scripture says that the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous avails much. The Bible further tells us that Elijah was a man in like passion like you and me. He prayed earnestly that it might not rain and it did not rain for three and half years. He prayed again and the heaven gave rain. So with the power of intercession, you can define the direction and course of your wife and children.

Apostle Paul also engaged intercession that through it Christ was formed in the life of Timothy. When Peter began to misbehave to Jesus Christ, the Bridegroom of the Church, He prayed for him. It is true that you might be having issues with your wife and children. It is also true that your sheep are not meeting up with your expectations. But you must not take the route of resolving it physically. Take it to the Lord in prayers and as you commit it to God, He will prepare their hearts to receive your instructions, admonition and chastisement. But what kind of prayer will God answer? It is the prayer of faith and not the prayer of doubt (Jas.5:15). You must trust God to help prepare the hearts of your flock, because it is when their hearts are prepared that they want to do what you want. This is what I call buy-in.

·         Father, by Your Spirit, help me to uphold my wife and children in intercession.

·         Father, prepare the hearts of my flock to receive my instructions willingly and cheerfully.

·         Father, by Your Spirit, teach me how to pray aright for my wife and children.

I uphold my flock in prayers continually because I desire that Christ will be formed in them as I walk to become a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
