Main Scriptures: Rom.13:10
More Scriptures: Col.3:19, Eph.5:25, Eph.5:33
Life is governed by laws. Laws are also made by man and nature. For instance, the law of gravity states that whatever goes up must come down. The law of seedtime and harvest is in force as long as there is day and night, rain and winter. So what is the law of love? And for whom is it meant for? Love worketh no ill to his neighbor therefore, LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW (Rom.13:10). The greatest law upon which all other laws rest is the law of love. And the law of love is for the husband-the head of the family and the pastor over the flock.
There are so many teachings out there that are full of half truths. Wives are told to love their husbands. Wives are made to be the one who should pray and fast when there is a problem in the family fold. Wives are made to be the one to be more concerned about the survival of their families. It appears the law of love has become the functions of the wives and not the husbands. Any wonder, husbands have become very irresponsible. Now, who did God say should love between the husband and his wife? In four instances, the Scripture tells us of the direct commandment to husband to love his wife. Eph.5:25, husbands love your wives….. Eph.5:28, so ought men to love their wives…… Eph.5:33 so love his wife even as himself…..Col.3:19, husbands, love your wives………… So you can see that the law of love is meant for you to implement in the direction of your wife, and not the other way round.
But what constitutes the law of love that God wants you to apply yourself to as a husband? It is found in 1Cor.13:4-8. Love is PATIENT, love is KIND. Love does not ENVY. Love is not BOASTFUL. Love is PROUD. Love is not RUDE. Love is not SELF-SEEKING. Love is not easily ANGERED. Love keeps no RECORD OF WRONGS. Love does not DELIGHT IN EVIL. Love REJOICES WITH THE TRUTH. Love ALWAYS PROTECTS. Love ALWAYS TRUSTS. Love ALWAYS HOPES. Love ALWAYS PERSEVERES. Love NEVER FAILS. As the shepherd of your wife and the prophet over your flock, it is demanded of you by God to implement the law of love-patient, kindness, humility, self control, sacrifice, forgiveness, truthfulness, perseverance and hope.
· Father, by Your Spirit, help me to appreciate my wife as You would.
· Father, by Your Spirit, plant the word of Your love in my heart to love as You would.
· Father, break me and mould me that I may conform to You in all things.
I walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, as I love my wife and children as Christ would because I want to be a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
