To some husbands, today’s devotional topic is not realistic. But I want to ask again, is there a perfect husband? No! There is no perfect husband, but there is a husband who is walking towards perfection. It is very important for you to understand that one of the lies of the devil is to make you think that you cannot be better than where you are or cannot come out of that mess you are in. So he tells you, “after all, you’re not perfect”. However, you have a perfect example in Jesus Christ. He represents a better example of a good and godly leader. Like Pastor John Maxwell said, “every word He spoke, everything He did, served to model what godly leadership looks like”.
Now what makes you a perfect husband? Firstly, you are accommodating. As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your home, you must be willing to allow God to work through your hands to bring healing to your wife and children when their health is attacked. Secondly, you have to minister provision, protection and direction to your flock, extending help to people around you. Thirdly, giving hope to your wife and children and saving them from every root of discouragement. These are the attributes of a perfect husband. Jesus Christ, the Head of all husbands, did all these and much more. He healed the sick, and lame. He cast out evil and unclean spirits. He ministered to the lowly. But for you to walk in perfection, you must acknowledge that you need help. It is when you recognize that you need help that you will be helped. And the help you need to function as a good and godly husband comes from the Lord. As the spiritual leader of your home and your family fold, it is your responsibility to reach out to your wife and children. Your flock needs you. They need you in their lives. They want you to be part of their lives. They want to see you as their first mentor. They want to celebrate you in their lives. God has presented to you the greatest opportunity to demonstrate to your wife and children who a perfect husband is, for a great prophet has arisen up among us and God has visited His people (Lk.7:16).
· Father, by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, help me to continue to recognize my need of You.
· Father, deliver me from the hold of pride and false estimation of self.
· Father, break every root of selfishness in and around my life and make me a selfless leader.
I am made perfect by the grace and mercy of the Lord and I am committed to doing what is righteous to my wife and children because I am helped to be a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
