Husbands Reap What They Sow

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Thess.3:7-8

More Scriptures: Gen.8:22, Rom.10:10, Jn.3:16

Today’s devotional topic is a response to write up I read sometime back. The writer emphasized so much about the need for a wife to respect her husband. Much as this is true, what would make a wife to disrespect her husband to the extent that he will hate her? As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over your flock, you must understand that inside you is a nation-your wife, children and others that may be following you. So beyond you are the lives of your wife and children, hence you must be very careful what you do to them. If you sow hatred, you will reap same. If you sow disrespect, you will surely reap disrespect. If you keep dishonouring your wife and children, be sure that you are only preparing the path of dishonor for your life. Let us look at a classic example of this principle from Scriptures. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him will not perish but have everlasting life (Jn.3:16). God demonstrated the reality of His love to you and I as husbands. He sowed love by giving His only begotten Son and He is harvesting billions of believers around the world today.

Therefore, the next time your wife or child disrespects you, please don’t get angry with them. Examine and evaluate your conduct. The word of God admonished you to examine yourself……… It may just be that your conduct both in word and in works is responsible for their reaction to you. But you may want to ask, what if my conduct is not the reason why my flock disrespects me, what do I do? Firstly, you must deal with it on your knees. Husbands who have learnt how to kneel before God will always stand tall before men. Why is prayer necessary? Prayer is the weapon of victory for you because it is the most important platform for you to break every stronghold of the enemy in the lives of your wife and children. The weapons of your warfare are not carnal. You are also not warring against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers in high places of the earth. Secondly, keep declaring the promises of God over the lives of your flock and never be discouraged (Rom.10:10).

·         Father, by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, open my inner eyes to see the real enemies of my family.

·         Father, break every root of self righteousness in my life.

·         Father, grant me the grace to live a life well pleasing to my wife and children.

I will honour and respect my wife and children because that is the trigger to earning honour from them as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
