Husbands, do you have any fruit of the Spirit? As the head of your family and the spiritual leader of your home and your wife and children, what kind of fruits are you producing for members of your flock to eat from? This is so important because as a leader, it is very easy for you to blame those you are leading. But what kind of fruits does God want you to produce in the lives of your wife and children? Our main text provides the answer. But the fruit of the Spirit is LOVE, JOY, PEACE, LONG-SUFFERING, GENTLENESS, GOODNESS, FAITH, MEEKNESS, TEMPERANCE, against such there is no law (Gal.5:22). As a husband, your position is first spiritual before it becomes physical. The reason is because God, Who created the office of the husbandhood is Spirit (Jn.4:24, Gen.2:18). You represent the God-head in your home. You bear His nature-love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, endurance- and He demands that you bear these fruits as your nature. God wants your wife and children to see you as the Bible they have read.
So how do I bear fruits? Firstly, you must allow the life of Christ to flow inside of you. I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live yet not I but Christ liveth in me and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the SON OF God, who loves me and gave himself for me (Gal.2:20). Secondly, you must continue to look unto Jesus Christ as your standard fruit bearer. The relationship Jesus Christ has with the church is the same relationship you have with your wife. Just the same way He looked up to the Father for the outflow of His fruits, so also you should look unto Jesus Christ for the outflow of His life. The Scripture says, looking unto Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of our faith (Heb.12:2). And when you bear these fruits of the Spirit, you will have succeeded in influencing your wife and children for Christ. And as you give yourself to these demands, you will have peace with God and with your flock. You will enjoy unhindered access to the presence of God even as you treat your wife with knowledge (1Pet.3:7) and nurture your children in the way and fear of the Lord (Eph.6:4)
· Father, by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, make me a fruit bearing seed for my flock to see.
· Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, let my life bear good and righteous fruits.
· Father, by the effective power in the blood of Jesus Christ, prune my and let it bear more fruits.
I stand strong in Jesus Christ so that my life may bear good and godly seeds as a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
