30 Second Rule

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.1:41-42

More Scriptures: 2Cor.4:2, Rom.16:1, Acts 24:3

He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, we have found the Messiah, which is translated, the Christ, and he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, he said, you are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas, which is translated, a stone (Jn.1:41-42). This verse of Scripture gives an account of two brothers with Jesus Christ. Andrew told his brother Peter about the encounter he had with Jesus. He brought his brother to meet with Jesus. Jesus recognized him and commended him on the spot, when He said, “you shall be called Cephas. This is called the 30 second rule.

As the head of your family and the leader of your flock, I want you to adopt the 30 second rule with your wife and children. When they do something right, immediately recognize it and commend them for it. Don’t say that you appreciate their good works in your heart. Did your wife cook a sumptuous meal for you or your friends? Say it loud and on the spot that the meal was delicious. Did your wife act in ways that impress you? Commend her. Did she offer some help even though it looks small? Commend her for it on the spot. Did your child washed her dishes by her own initiatives? Commend her on the spot. Did your child return home with an excellent exam results? Commend your child on the spot. Did your child act in ways that please you? Commend her on the spot. What this means is that you commend your flock within 30 seconds of the good act. And if you are not close, and you are told, call them on the phone and commend them. This is the secret to encouraging your flock to do better. Remember that after Jesus openly commended Peter, he went ahead to become the major pillar of Jesus’ ministry.

So if Jesus Christ, the perfect example of how husbands are ordained to behave, applied the 30 second rule, it is wisdom for you to do the same to your flock. It is a righteous thing to commend your flock. It does not reduce them rather, it increases them. And when you cultivate and sustain this attitude, you would see the best of God in the lives of your flock and they will honour you with their lives in return.

·         Father, by Your Spirit, help me to commend my flock without delay.

·         Father, deliver me from taking my flock for granted.

·         Father, open my eye to the good works of my flock and teach me how to appreciate them.

I will deliberately and immediately commend my wife and children for every act of good work because that is what makes me a good and godly husband to them in Jesus name. Amen.
