Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit helped our understanding in appreciating the need of for us leaders to commend our flock on the spot. He taught us that taking our flock for granted is to ground them, emotionally. Today by the grace of God, let us consider how you and I can empower our flock. From our main text, the Scripture tells us about the story of Joseph and his brothers. They sold him into slavery, hated him and wished him dead. They never liked him. After many years, having been at the palace, he met his brothers. But rather than take revenge, he empowered them by giving them all that they need to be strong again. And Joseph said to his brothers, please come near to me. So they came near. Then he sad, I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold in Egypt. But now do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life (Gen.45:3-5).
God did not make you the head so that you can strip off the self worth of your wife and children. God did not put you in charge of your flock so that you can destroy every ounce of strength inside them. Just the same way God sent Joseph ahead of his brothers to preserve their lives, so you are also sent ahead of your wife and children to give them life and not death, increases and not reduction. The same way Joseph blessed his brothers is also the same way God expects you to bless you flock. So for you to empower your wife and children, you must possess these characteristics. First, you must have a strong sense of security. You are not threatened by the success of your flock. Second, you must have a very strong sense of identity. You must know your worth as a husband and be not afraid of your value. Third, you must have a strong sense of compassion toward your wife and children. It is compassion that motivates you to want to see that your wife and children become better even when you don’t seem to get your desired result. Fourth, you must have a strong sense of purpose-becoming good, godly and responsible leader. Fifth, you must have the right perspective about your position, wife and children. When you have all these, you are on your way to making your flock vessels unto honour.
· Father, by Your Spirit, fill my heart with compassion toward my wife and children.
· Father, by the power in the blood of Jesus Christ, destroy every hold of low self esteem in my life.
· Father, by the truth in Your word, build me up and make me an agent of empowerment
I will begin to empower my wife and children because that’s what I am commanded to do to them as a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
