Main Scriptures: Philippians 3:18-20
More Scriptures: Ti.1:11, Rom.16:18, Gal.5:16
There is this popular saying that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. That is if you want to get the best of a man, give him a delicious and sumptuous meal. Sadly, this earthly proverb has become the undoing of many husbands. I have remarked many times that any husband who eats three times a day and seven days a week is a very dangerous husband. He is almost predictable by the enemy and can fall for anything. And this is why today’s topic is relevant to you as the spiritual head and husband of your family kingdom. In Phil.3:19, the Scriptures say whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. When as the head of the family, you cannot control your appetite for food, you are treading a dangerous path for your life and to a large extent endangering the destinies of your flock. Food is good, but it should not control you. This is why the Bible commands us to bring our bodies under.
You are a spiritual being occupying a spiritual office created by a spiritual God. What gives value to your office is not in meat or drink but in the demonstration of power. And this can be achieved by engaging yourself in spiritual demands. Many husbands have lost their lives to poisons because they could not control their belly. It is not all food that is offered to you that you must eat. I recall an incident that happened several years ago, while I was still a young banker. My branch manager invited me for lunch. When we got to the restaurant, he requested that I ordered for anything. Honestly, I was very hungry, and had always desired to visit that particular restaurant because it was one of the popular eateries in town. So this was an opportunity for me to ask for anything I wanted just as my boss had instructed. After all he was willing to pay. Rather than allow my belly to influence my decision, I allowed my faith in God’s word to decide. I asked for a plate-two mold of pounded yam and two pieces of meat. I can tell you that this singular act endeared me to my boss, so that when I had a fatal accident, he paid for the repairs of the car. Husbands, let us be spiritual. It is the security that you need to secure your future as the head of your home.
· Father, by the blood of Jesus, deliver me from the power of the belly
· Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to have absolute control over my appetite.
· Father, by Your Spirit, help me not make wrong decisions because of food
I overcome the power of food and uncontrollable appetite because I am marching on to becoming a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
