The Seven Deadly Sins

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Proverb 6:16-19

More Scriptures: 1Tim. 3:15-16, Gal. 5:18-26

Every husband no matter how anointed you are will be confronted with one or more of the seven (7) types of sin. I call it the perfect sin. The sinful nature or weakness of any husband revolves around the seven deadly sin. These sins or weakness are in our old nature and we must deal with them on a constant and consistent basis as husbands if we must see the glory of God in our family. God called them sins and that’s what they are. For the Bible says that all unrighteousness is sin. When we give our lives to Jesus Christ by accepting Him as our Lord and Personal Saviour, what happens is that our spirit man is renewed. Our physical and emotional state has not been transformed (Rom.12:3). Therefore, we don’t expect automatic transformation immediately after new birth rather we must continually work out our salvation with fear and trembling if we desire to be the kind of husband God wants us to be. What then are these perfect sins? They are PRIDE, COVETOUSNESS, LUST, ENVY, ANGER, GLUTTONY and SLOTHFULNESS.

Every husband is confronted daily by circumstances that test our natural tendencies over and above our spiritual dispositions. For instance, as a husband, people that you think you are better than suddenly acquire something you had long wished to have and before you know it envy begins to well up on your mind. Or maybe someone has offended you and you are so upset and contemplating whether to forgive the person or not. Or perhaps you have not had a good meal for a very long time and suddenly you were invited to a buffet where all things are ready. You are faced with a choice to eat right or overfeed (gluttony). As a husband, it’s a daily challenge that you must deal with if you must grow into the nature and stature of Jesus Christ. But how do I subdue and overcome these natural tendencies as a husband? You overcome these weaknesses by being spiritual. You must exercise yourselves unto godliness by allowing the Holy Spirit to work His perfect work in your life. This requires that you pray continually in the spirit, give attention to studying God’s word, pray for His grace and allow the love of God to rule your heart. Infact, the question should be, if Jesus is in my position what will He do? That will help you to know the mind of God.  You must all strive for perfection by overcoming the perfect sins.

·         Father, by Your Spirit, empower me to overcome the seven deadly sins

·         Father, by the blood of Jesus, deliver me from presumptuous sin.

·         Father, by the blood of Jesus Christ, break the power of sin in my life..

I am filled with the Spirit of holiness and I walk in the reality of the righteousness of God in Christ in Jesus because I am chosen to be a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus name. Amen.
