……………..And I will make thee a great nation and I will bless thee and make thee great and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee and curse him that curseth thee and in thee shall the families of the earth be blessed (Gen.12:1-3). This verse of Scripture tells the story of a blessed husband. His name is Abraham, the husband of Sarah. He was not only a blessing to his family, he was also an agent of blessing to generations after him. He was instrumental to the financial success of his nephew, Lot. He interceded for his nephew when God was about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. And the result was that his nephew as saved from the destruction of the city where he lived. He organized armies from within his household to confront the enemy who had invaded the city where his relations lived. Not only did he overrun the enemy, he also restored everything that the enemy had stolen. He believed God for the fruit of the womb, hoping against hope, when he was childless. He walked with God, trusted Him until the womb of Sarah was opened and she conceived and gave birth to Isaac. And when it was time for him to depart this world to meet with God, he gathered his family and blessed them. He left behind spiritual, financial and material blessings for his family (Gen.13:1, Gen.26:1-3).
Looking at all of these coming from a husband, would you rather want to be a burden or a blessing to your wife and children and the world at large? God has ordained you to be a blessing to your family. Your headship in your home is to be a blessing to your flock rather than a burden. Your presence should inspire hope, faith and confidence in the lives of your wife and children rather than fear, unhappiness and despair. But for you to be a blessing rather than a curse, you will need to appreciate these truths. First, you are a trans-generational agent of blessing. This means that your life is beyond your existence. The day you become a husband and father, you no longer live for yourself but for your wife and children. Second, inside you is a nation. Your position as the head of your family is your greatest opportunity to recreate good and godly nations and families out of your wife and children. As a husband, you are not a figure head or a statistic in your family kingdom. You are a blessing.
