Main Scriptures: Col.2:8-9
More Scriptures: Deut.15:6, Hag.2:9, Matt.15:6
Beware lest any man spoil you through the philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ (Col.2:8). As the head of your family and the spiritual leader over the lives of your flock, you must be very careful of two things. First, you must very careful with the philosophy and deceitfulness of this world. And secondly, you must be very careful with the rudiments of the world. You are a type of Christ in your home. The values you teach your children and wife must not be what the world teaches but what the word of God teaches. For example, what does the word of God teach about kingdom finances? Did it teach that we must borrow to live a lifestyle that portrays us as people who have arrived or learn to depend on His supplies (Deut.15:6, Deut.28:13, Pro.22:4, Hag.2:7-9)? It is the tradition of men to borrow and not the teachings of Christ. There are many more teachings out there that are working against the rudiments of Jesus Christ. As the leader, you must be committed and determined to pass down to your flock good and godly principles that would distinguish them from the crowd. You must let your decisions about the issues of life be influenced by the truth of God’s word.
As a husband, one of the fruits you enjoy when you follow the rudiments or principles of Jesus and teach them to your flock, is peace and joy. According to the word of God, the kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost. Your flock grows up to rely on God and not man, faith and not doubt, contentment and not envy. They become more confident of the ability of God to supply all their needs according to His riches and not the connection of men or the principles of the world. You must understand that as the leader in your home, your legacy is much more important to God than silver or gold. However, for you not to fall victim of the philosophy and vain deceit or the tradition of men, you must be courageous to stand for the whole truth of the word of God and not cherry-picking. In Joshua chapter 1, the word of God tells us the importance of courage. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee….(Jos.1:7). You need an overdose and overflow of courage to follow the principles of Jesus and His word through and through in this perverse world. All of God is all of you. Make your life count.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from the deceitfulness of life and subtlety of comparison and envy.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, fill me with the spirit of contentment.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, make me abundantly wealthy and prosperous in all things.
I vow to follow the principles of Jesus in all my decisions and to please Him in all my ways because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus name. Amen.
