Manoah Entreated The Lord

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Judges 13:6-8

More Scriptures: 1Cor.14:14, Matt.1:20, Lk.1:35

Our main text today is the story of a husband, his wife and son. His name was Manoah, the father of Samson. He and his wife had no child. And this matter became a problem in the family, to the extent that his family was mocked. Someday, his family had an angelic visitation. He was not around when the angel visited. But when his wife told him, he did something remarkable, which is the hall mark of a matured and godly husband. He interceded on behalf of the family. In verse 8 of Jdgs.13, the Scriptures say then Manoah entreated the Lord and said, O my Lord, let the man of God which thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born. As the head of the family, you hold the key to the success or failure of your family- your wife and children. Your headship has put you in a position where you are ordained to provide spiritual guidance and chart a glorious destiny for your flock. There are things that your wife and child may have told you. There are some encounters that your flock may have explained to you. Is it a dream they have shared with you? Could it be an expectation that they may have shared with you concerning their academics, relationships, business, spirituality, etc.? Whatever they may have told you, it is important that you do what the husband in our main text did-he made spiritual enquires from God. The Bible says, Manoah entreated the Lord.

A lot of times as heads of our families, we have neglected the most important responsibility that we have towards our flock, which is reconfirming and interceding for them. And because husbands have handled this fundamental aspect of their roles with so much carelessness, our children and wives have continued to go around in circles without making any appreciable advancement, spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally. In the story of Joseph and Mary in Matt.1, the husband, upon discovering that his wife was pregnant, inquired of the Lord. In verse 20 of Matt.1, the Scriptures say but while he thought on these things, behold an angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. Just imagine if he did not make further enquiries from the Lord, he may have driven the wife out of the home and lost out in the chance of being part of a good testimony, which the world is celebrating up till now. Husbands, don’t leave your flock without a higher spiritual input, which must come from you. You are there to lead them.

FAITH CONFESSION

I will faithfully entreat the Lord, My helper on behalf of my wife and children because I want to be a good and godly husband to them in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
