The Shepherd Is Smitten

Spread the love

Main Scripture: Matt.26:31

More Scriptures: Zech.13:7, Gen.3:6, Ac.5:5

I have observed that the easiest way to get at the flock of a sheepfold is when the shepherd is smitten. In fact, once you are able to capture the shepherd, it is almost as easy as you can think to reach his sheep. This is because the shepherd holds the keys to the sheepfold and provides direction, protection and provision for the sheep. So, the sheep are familiar with the voice of the shepherd. The moment the shepherd is disconnected from the sheep, the sheep become exposed to danger and molestation. In Matt. 26:31, the word of God says, and when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. Then saith Jesus unto them, all ye shall be offended because of me this night, for it is written, I will smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. As a husband and the head of your family, you occupy a very important position in your family fold. You are the gateway to your family fold. You hold the keys and no man not even the devil can gain access to your flock unless you permit it. When the Pharisees accused the disciples of Jesus that they did not participate in the ritual of fasting as others did, Jesus said, as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast (Mk.2:19). This is what the enemy, satan, hates, so he will do anything to get at you so that he can run riot over your wife and children.

If you study the story of the fall of the first husband and his wife, you will discover that until satan was able to get the husband, he couldn’t get the wife. Yes, the conversation started between the wife and satan, even though the husband looked on. When the wife ate the fruit, they did not know that they were naked. But as soon as the husband ate the forbidden fruit, their eyes became opened and they knew they were naked (Gen.3:6-7). However, for you to protect your headship as the husband of your flock, you must continue to depend on the grace of God. The Scripture tells us that His grace is sufficient for us. You must deliberately come under the shadow of the Almighty God (Ps.91:1). You come under the protection of God, it become very difficult for satan and his agents to smite you. Also, you must have a deep and continuously deepening relationship with Jesus (2Cor.5:17). As you get deeper in Jesus Christ, it is no longer you that lives but Christ that lives in you. Your life is embedded in Him, hence anything that must smite you must first smite Him. The areas satan may want to smite you includes sickness, weakness, diseases, and filthiness of the spirit (2Cor.7:1). You must awake and be alert so that your headship is preserved.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the arrows of satan, my adversary.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be continually under the shadow of Your protection.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, take me deeper in love with You.

I dwell under the secret place of God because that is my guarantee for living out the will of God for my life as a good and godly husband to my flock in Jesus Name. Amen.
