Main Scripture: 1Cor.4:1-2

Let a man so account of us, as the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful (1Cor.4:1-2). From our main Scripture today, the word of God explains to us the role of a steward and what is expected of him. A steward owns nothing but he oversees everything. A steward is a care-giver. He gives care to the people assigned to him. A steward is accountable to his master, giving account of his stewardship. And finally, a steward receives wages for his stewardship. If the steward does well, he is rewarded. But if he fails, he is punished or the assets kept in his custody are withdrawn. Sometimes, the steward is even replaced. Now, as a husband the head of your family, you are a steward. Your wife and children have been given to you by God. You don’t own them because you neither created your wife nor children (Gen.2:14-18, Ps.127:2-6). So, if you do not own your flock but were given to you by God, then you are accountable to Him. You must give account of how you well you traded them (1Sam.2:12-14, 1 Sam.8:1-7, Gen.3:8-9). One truth that you must never run away from is that God is counting on you to effect the needed changes in the lives of your wife and children.
Furthermore, as a husband, you receive wages for your service. If you study the story of Priest Eli, you will discover that he paid the wages of death because he did not give good account of what he did with his children. Also, the Prophet Samuel also lost the opportunity to enthrone his sons as the next kings in line. As the husband and the head of your family, you must not take your headship lightly. You must see your position as a calling and a privileged position. But what does God demand from every husband who is a steward? God demands absolute faithfulness from you. God wants to find you faithful in every aspect of your responsibility to your flock and even to Him. God wants you to be faithful in your relationship, finances, the works of your hands, in teaching your flock, in living your life as example of the life of Jesus and in many more areas. Faithfulness is not what you wish for. It is what you desperately desire. There must be a longing in your soul to be faithful to all the commandments of God as it relates to your responsibility as a man, husband and father. So, also it is a spirit. Therefore, one major way you can access the grace to be a faithful steward is by asking for it in prayers. In Matt.7:7, the word of God says, ask and it shall be given…… And as you receive the grace to be faithful and you walk therein, you will enjoy all round peace, strength and vitality.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, release the grace of faithfulness into my life and let me walk in it.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to become a faithful steward to my wife and children.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from the force of unfaithfulness.
I receive the grace of faithfulness from God because that is what I need to be a faithful steward to my wife and children in Jesus mighty Name. Amen.
