A Godly Husband Is Honourable

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Corinthians 8:17-21

More Scriptures: Ps.113:3, Heb.13:4, 1Tim.4:12

Our main text today is a very long Scripture. But I want to emphasise on verse 21. The Scriptures say, providing HONOURABLE THINGS, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men. One of the responsibilities that God demands from you is to bear honorable fruits before all men, beginning with your flock. Your life should bring honor to God and His kingdom. In Matt. 5:14-16, the Scripture says, ye are the salt of the earth and ye are the light of the world. And it should shine before men so that they would glorify God.  As the head of the family, you have inside of you the ability to bear honourable fruits because from creation, you were made in the image and likeness of God, a fruit bearing Agent (Gen.1:26-28). God has ordained you to provide honorable things not only in the sight of God but also in the sight of men, beginning with your wife and children. It is dishonorable for you to physically abuse or beat up your wife. I read a sad story recently of a husband who beat his wife until she died in Abuja, Nigeria.

Some husbands have this belief that it is only when they beat up their wives that they (wives) submit to them. That is a lie from hell. For you to deny your wife and children goodwill and provisions is not honorable. Anything that you do that is contrary to what God has commanded from His word is dishonorable. There are husbands who appear so well off before their pastors or church members – zealous in service, giving of their time and finances, getting committed to church activities. These activities seem honorable before God. But the things and attitudes that these husbands put up or do to their wives and children at the home front are so dishonorable that you just wonder if it is the same person. God is saying to you that your headship over your family is to live an honourable life not only before God but also before your flock. The beginning point of your light shining is first before men, represented by your immediate family-wife and children. Your testimony must be unstained. But how do l provide honourable things before God and men, specifically, my wife and children? The first thing to do is to love your wife and children sincerely and passionately. The second thing that you must do is to show interest in them and the things that they are doing. Not just show a passing interest, but such interest that would take something from you to them. You are the head of the family and your life is designed to impact positively on their lives. Make it honourable so that they may see honour.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live above the law of sin and death.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to live according to the law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto You.

I live a honourable life as a good and godly husband because I now live by the law of the Spirit in Christ Jesus, in Jesus Name. Amen.
