Main Scriptures: Matt.5:43-44
More Scriptures: Mk.9:41, Tim.1:8, 1Pt.4:9
Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies and bless them that curse you, DO GOOD to them that hate you and PRAY for them which despitefully use you and persecute you (Matt.5:43-44)
As the spiritual leader in your home, you must be hospitable to your wife and children and even those around you. And the best time to extend hospitality to your flock is when they have offended you. Surprised! Don’t be. It may not be popular but that is what Jesus Christ instructed. Those times when your wife and children have so hurt you are the best times to do good to them. As someone who strives to be a good and godly husband, practicing hospitality is the character of Jesus Christ. It is true Christian character of a godly husband. In Rom.12:13, the Word of God says share with God’s people who are in need. PRACTICE HOSPITALITY (NIV). When your wife misbehaves or speaks very rudely to you, don’t return her insult with insults. Rather, be generous to her with kind words.
However, you must watch against the spirit of complaining and not allow it to override your hospitality. In 1Pt.4:9, the Scriptures say, be hospitable to one another without complaint. As the shepherd over your flock, you must understand that your service to your sheep is a service to God. So, don’t consider your act of kindness to them as a waste of time and energy. The word of God tells us that whatever you do, do it as unto God and not as unto men. Assuredly, as you sow the seed of hospitality notwithstanding their weaknesses, you will reap the fruits if you faint not.Being hospitable to your flock despite their shortcomings is a sign of maturity. You must care for your wife and children, generously. Let your eyes focus on the love and mercy of God and let that understanding guide your relationship with your wife and children. If you revenge what your flock did to you, you are not better than them and that is not the character of a godly husband. Therefore, the next time your flock offends, show them hospitality.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, destroy every root of foolishness in my life as the head of the family.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me with heavenly wisdom and help me to rule my family wisely.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from every root of bitterness and unforgiveness.
I extend care, support and kindness to my wife and children, irrespective of their failures because that is what I need to do to become a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
