Main Scriptures: 1Timothy 3:2

More Scriptures: 2Tim.2:23-25, Deut.28:1, 2Tim.2:15

And overseer, then must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, prudent, respectable, hospitable, ABLE TO TEACH (1Tim.3:2).

I have observed that one of my duties as the husband and the leader of my family fold, is to teach my wife and children the word of God. First, by the things I say and secondly by the way I conduct and live my life. And that is why the Scripture in 1Tim.3:2 is very important. The day you decided to become a husband is the day you were filled with the teaching grace. You have the responsibility to pastor your flock. You are their first pastor. You are to provide godly landmarks for them. As the head of the family, you must prayerfully sit to teach your flock about spirituality, sexuality, character development, finances, hospitality, cleanliness and so much more. Infact, you are a reference to your sheep

However, you must be equipped before you can teach your flock. As the saying goes, you cannot give what you don’t have. The word of God says be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, handling accurately the word of truth (2Tim.2:15). You must allow the word of God to change you before you can extend the change to your wife and children. You must submit yourself to be taught by the Word of God and other anointed materials before you can teach your flock. You cannot teach your sheep the importance to respect constituted authority, including your office as the head of the family, if you have not learnt to obey and respect rules. You cannot teach your wife submission when you find it very difficult to submit to others. You cannot teach your wife to give when you have not learnt and practiced giving. So, every positive change you desire for your flock starts with you. No matter how incompetent and wayward your wife and children may be, you can restore them back to the path of honour and dignity. Pray for them, get them books or tapes, send them to learn a vocation and be available to answer their questions. Get approved by the truth of God’s word.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, make me a willing vessel to my wife and children.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, let Your light in my life shine before my flock.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, give my flock the heart of flesh and let them receive my teaching joyfully.

I teach my flock the truth of God’s word because that is my call as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
