Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the Champion who initiates and perfects our faith…….. (Heb.12:1-2) NLT
As the husband and the shepherd over your sheep, it is very important for you to have a husband whom you want to model your life after. The life of a good and godly husband. There are many husbands who are shining examples of godly husbands. Some of them, we watch them from far, while others at close range. However, they are humans and are working towards perfection. So, the best model for you and I as husbands is Jesus Christ. The Scripture describes Him as the Groom of the bride. In Eph.5:25, the word of God compares the relationship you have with your flock with the one Jesus Christ has with the Church. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church… (Eph.5:25) NLT
But should you make Jesus your real and true model? Firstly, it is because He is not a man that will lie or change. He is God and without blemish. The Bible tells us that He knew no sin, yet He took upon Himself the burden of the world. Secondly, He remains the same forever. No matter the circumstances, He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb.13:8). Thirdly, He experienced all the shades of disappointments any shepherd would expect from his flock. Judas betrayed Him. Peter insulted Him and was disrespectful. Peter also denied Him when the die was cast. Thomas doubted Him, notwithstanding that he was with Jesus for three and half years. Some of the disciples abandoned Him. In these, He was faithful and He is still faithful to His bride. Jesus has seen it all and He has the keys that will give you victory. Make Him your model. It is an eternal guarantee.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to look up to You for direction and inspiration.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, help me to keep my gaze on You for my success as a husband.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, please, teach me Your ways and Your acts.
I have decided to follow Jesus Christ and I model my life after Him because that is my pathway to becoming a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
