Understanding Husbandhood

Spread the love

Main Scriptures:  1Timothy 3:3-8

More Scriptures: Gal.4:19, Ti.1:7, 1Cor.9:17

A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach, not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not covetous, one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity. For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God…. (1Tim.3:2-5)

To be a husband is a calling. It is a higher calling. God has called you out of the crowd and made you a husband. Among the many men on the streets and in the world, you are one of the few with added qualification- a husband. So, you are just not an ordinary man. You are a glorious and dignified personality called to fulfill an assignment here on earth and in the lives of your wife and children. If you grasp the truth in 1Tim.3, you will understand that being a husband is  serious business. You are the bishop over your flock.

Now, let us consider some of the actions that define who you are as a husband. Faithfulness, vigilance, self-control, humility, not quarrelsome, not a fighter, and much more. You are to be all what Apostle Paul said in 1Tim.3 to your flock. Your life must be an epistle of godliness to them. Your children and wife should grow to honour God because of you. In 1Pet.5:3, the word of God has this to say. Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being examples to the flock.   Examples remain the most potent force in communicating your life to your sheep. What you tolerate is what your family will celebrate. If you live a lifestyle of iniquity, your family will celebrate it. If you live a life of righteousness, your family will celebrate it. Doing what is right as a husband to your wife and children has great rewards. You represent God to your wife and children.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to please You always.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, deliver me from living a life of deceit and unfaithfulness.

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, empower me to be a godly example to my flock.

I live by the truth of God’s word for my office as the husbandman because that is what empowers me to become a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
