Do everything without complaining and arguing, so that no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent lives as children off God, shining like bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people (Philippians 2:14-15) NLT
I want to challenge every husband to do everything without complaining. You must do everything in love and not in bitterness. God will not reward you for your service to your wife and children if you don’t do it in love. You cannot attain so much on the altar of prayer when you complain. You cannot engage the weapon of prayer to impart the godly character you desire in the lives of your flock if it is done in murmuring. God was angry with the people of Israel when they collected the food that He supplied them, murmuring. So, when you provide for your wife and children, do it in love. Don’t make it look as though you are doing them a favour. It is your principal responsibility and it must be done joyfully. When you pray for your flock, please do it in the love of Christ. When you want to help your children in their homework or your wife with house chores, please do it lovingly and not grudgingly.
As the head of the family, you must understand that everything you do in your family fold is a seed. Your prayer is a seed. Your fasting is a seed. Your giving is a seed. Your smile is a seed. Your honesty and truthfulness is a seed. Just everything and anything is a seed. And every seed has the potential to bear fruits if planted in the right environment and given the right nutrients. It is for this reason that you don’t allow the seed you have sown into the lives of your flock to be fruitless by reason of your murmuring attitude. One major way to destroy the spirit of murmuring and complaining is to engage the Person of the Holy Spirit so that He sheds the love of Jesus Christ abroad in your heart (Rom.5:5). As you allow the spirit of the love of Christ to gain root in your heart, you become empowered to see your wife and children through the eyes of God. And this will enable you celebrate their strength and help them overcome their weaknesses.
