Main Scriptures: Mk.14:36-38
More Scriptures: Lk.16:1, Is.56:10, Rev.16:15
Flowing from yesterday’s teaching, I want to share with you one very important tool the enemy has used to destroy the good and godly heritage of husbands. It is the weapon of complacency. Any husband who is not watchful about his life will end up in shame. David the husband of Abigail, was a man of valour. He was a king and a prophet. He had tremendous victories and was highly favoured. The Scripture describes him like this, he is a man after God’s heart…. So, he was an anointed man of God. But one day, he became complacent. He fell into adultery. He had a sexual relationship with another man’s wife and in order to hide his folly, he killed the husband. The Scripture warns that we should watch and pray (Matt.26:41). It is very true that you are a man of authourity and power. It is true that you have courage. It is even true that you are anointed. But you must be watchful. A careless husband is not secured. This is what the word of God says in Amos 6. Woe unto him who is at ease in Zion…
But how do I overcome this weapon of complacency? The first step is to keep your prayer altar on fire on a continuous basis. You must not take a break from those spiritual exercises that have brought you to where you are as a good and godly husband. These include studying the word of God, prayers and fasting, meditation and bold declarations. Read what Jesus said about keeping your spiritual fervency in top form. And he spake a parable unto them to this end that men ought always to pray and not to faint (Lk.18:1). The second step you must take is to engage the Person of the Holy Spirit by speaking in the Holy Ghost. As a good and godly husband, you need to see beyond the flesh and into the spirit. As you engage the Person of the Holy Ghost, He shows you things to come. He gives you an insight into what is being planned for you and against. He empowers you to read the mindset of people. Howbeit when he, the spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will show you things to come (Lk.16:13)
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from spiritual complacency and keep my altar burning for You.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me by Your Spirit to walk in Your ways always.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me into all truth and show me things to come.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have been empowered by the Holy Ghost to live above the deceitfulness of sin and I walk in victory as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
