Your Children Are Your Glory

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Pro.17:6

More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Jos.24:15, Is.61:9

Children’s children are the heritage of old men, and the glory of children are their fathers (Pro.17:6) KJV

Today and all around us, fathers are no longer reference points in the lives of their children. Why is this so? It is because fathers have passed the responsibility of nurturing their children to the mothers. And this is a deviation from Scriptural instructions. Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Remember to bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord (Eph.6:4) NLT. It is only an irresponsible father that will abdicate his God-ordained functions to his wife. Yes, you may be out there working and quite busy but that does not hinder you from giving them instructions from the word of God. It also does not stop you from disciplining your children. You are not just a provider. You are a man with the capacity to bring your children up in the way and admonition of the Lord. Joshua speaking in Jos.24:15 says, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. That is the mind set you must have as a father. You must not expect the glory of your children to impact in your life if you have not nurtured them.

As a father, your children are your primary assignment. Your wife is there to provide you the support. So, how do I maximize my role as a good and godly father? Firstly, you must assume full responsibility for the lives of your children. Until you take responsibility you cannot be accountable. You must throw out the traditions and cultures and the rudiments of the world that say that child nurturing is the duty of the mothers. Secondly, you must deliberately engage your children in a conversation. It may be when you drive them to school, at dinner, as you watch TV, just any opportunity (Deut.6:7). Thirdly, develop a prayer plan for your children, where on a daily basis you intercede that they will become obedient to godly instructions and learn from discipline. Praying for your seed remains the most potent platform that God has provided for you to effect all the changes you want to see in their lives. You must take advantage of it. Remember that the glory of your children is you, so be accountably-responsible.
