Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren now that not many wise men lust after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called (1Cor.1:25-26) KJV
Let me begin by establishing two cardinal truths about your headship. This is very important so that you can maximize your potential as a good and godly husband. The first is that being the head of your family is a mandate from God. God chose you and placed you as the leader over your wife and children (Gen.2:14-18, Eph.5:25-29). The second is that being a husband is the favour of God. Now, consider these obvious questions and answer them sincerely. Are there some men who are more educated than you are, yet have not been married? Are there some men who have more money than you have but are still single? Are there some men that are more handsome than you are but are unmarried? Not many wise after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble are called (1Cor.1:26).
But why do you need to know these truths? It is because of the fact that many husbands have lost their place in the family-fold. Husbands that are ordained to lead their flock have become sheep. Husbands that are ordained to become mentors to their flock have become mentees. Husbands that are ordained to be hard workers have become lazy. Husbands that are ordained to provide for their flock have become dependent on their wives’ paycheck and income. Many husbands that are ordained to operate in the realm of pastor, prophet and priest to their flock-wives and children- have become so powerless and have lost command. Many more husbands that are ordained to love their wives as Christ has loved the church and nurture their children in the way and admonition of the Lord have become irresponsible and misfits to the family-fold.
The will of God for you and I as the head of the family is to be like Him to our flock. God has purposed that you and I must succeed as men, husbands and fathers. But we have a responsibility to appreciate that being a husband is a mandate from God and it is a favour that God bestows on us. Therefore, let us take our role seriously and be committed to making ourselves profitable to our wives and children.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me a worthy example of Your kingdom to my wife and children.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your will in my family fold.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, prosper me and make me a fruitful vine to my flock.
FAITH CONFESSION
I know that my headship as the husband is a gift and a mandate from God and so I take it very seriously because that is what empowers my position as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
