Chariots And Charioteers

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 1Kg.1:5-6

More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Pro.29:15, Pro.13:24

About that time David’s son Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith, began boasting, I will make myself king. So, he provided himself with chariots and charioteers and recruited fifty men to run in front of him. Now his father, king David, had never disciplined him at any time, even by asking…(1Kg.1:5-6) NLT

Recall that we have established that the husbandman is a triune personality. That is, he is a three-in-one personality. He is a man (Gen.1:26-28), a husband (Gen.2:14-18) and a father (Gen.4:1). Today, I want to focus on the third person of the husbandman, the father. From our Bible passage today, it became very clear that Adonijah, the son of David was a child left to himself. He was overindulged by his parents because amongst other things they were very wealthy. The Scripture says, “his father, king David HAD NEVER disciplined him at any time. Because he was not disciplined, he grew to become a rebellious child who organized chariots and charioteers to forcefully take over the reign of his father. However, he did not succeed and died ingloriously.

It is important for you to understand that the word of God, though old, is valid for today’s needs. The word of God says that a child that is left to himself shall bring shame (Pro.29:15). The word of God further assures you and I that when we discipline our children, they will not die but will become better people and useful to God and humanity. As a father, you must be very careful not to be carried away by this modern style of parenting, where the child cannot be disciplined or corrected. It has become so sad that fathers are afraid to confront their children when they become unruly. Fathers, you are not loving your child when you indulge him or her. You are destroying his or her destinies. And the ultimate victim is you. As a father, you may not be hard physically on your child, but you must be firm. You must draw the lines that they must never cross. You must also confront them when they cross the lines not minding the outlook on their faces. God has given you children as gifts. You must nurture them in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4).

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be bold to confront my children when they are wrong.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, grant me wisdom and help me to nurture my children in Your ways.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, put the spirit of the fear of God into the hearts of my children and help them to walk in Your ways.

FAITH CONFESSION

I receive power and wisdom to train my children in the way of the Lord Jesus because that is the responsibility I have towards them as a good and godly father in Jesus Name. Amen.
