Your Old Self Is Dead

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Rom.6:5-6

More Scriptures: 2Cor.5:17, Rom.7:6, Ezk.36:26

Since we have been united with him in his death, we will be raised to life as He was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin (Rom.6:5-6) NLT

As the husband and the head of your family kingdom, you must understand that you are dead to your old life of sin – unforgiveness, lovelessness, envy, bitterness and many more. You are no longer subject to the influences of satan and the world. Like the old song says, “ the things I used to do I do them no more”. You cannot claim to be a good and godly husband and yet find it difficult to forgive your wife or children. You cannot tell people that you are a godly husband when you keep malice or bitterness with your flock. The life of Christ in you must speak loudest in the lives of your wife and children. The Scripture says, let your light so shine before men that they may see…. You don’t have to tell people that you are a good and godly husband neither do you have to remind your wife and children. Your response, your actions, your attitudes, towards them sum up who you are. In 2Cor.5:17, the word of God has this to say. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, behold old things have passed away and all things have become new.

So, how do you do away with the old and live in the new life in Christ? The first step is to walk in the fear of the Lord. This means that your decisions, dispositions and actions are influenced by the word of God-the Bible. Secondly, you must be conscious of the truth that you have been raised by the power of the Holy Spirit. For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives (Rom.6:4). You are a good and godly husband to live the new life of Jesus to your flock. With this understanding, you can take authority over every unpleasant situation in your family fold. You can stop the wind of disobedience in and around the lives of your wife and children. You are like Jesus Christ. Make it count in the lives of your flock.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, stir up the consciousness of my heritage in Jesus for the benefit of my flock.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from guilt and self-condemnation.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the spirit of Christ.

FAITH CONFESSION

I am a new creature in Jesus Christ and I reign in that consciousness because that makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
