No Work, No Food

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: 2Thess.3:7-11

More Scriptures: Pro.10:4, Pro.18:19, Rom.12:11

The Bible passage I am about to share with you today is rather long but it is self explanatory. So, as a man, husband and father, I want you to be challenged by the truth of the word of God so that you can be an example to other husbands out there.

…. Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us. For you know that you ought to imitate us. We were not idle when we were with you. We never accepted food from anyone without paying for it. We worked hard day and night so we would not be a burden to any of you. We certainly had the right to ask you to feed us, but we wanted to give you an example to follow. Even while we were with you, we gave you this command, those unwilling to work will not get to eat. Yet, we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living (2Thess.3:6-12) NLT.

No husband has the right to demand for food from his wife when he has not provided the money. No husband has the right to speak out when other fathers are talking when it is his wife who pays the school fees. No husband has the right to claim headship of his home when it is the wife who pays the rent. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in the faith and it matters less how spiritual you are, if you are not the providing for your family, you are not fit and proper to be called the head of the family. What defines the honour of your headship is the evidential testimonies that you have been able to produce that people can see. After all, proofs don’t lie. Some husbands are so foolish that they go around in their wives’ cars. Others have even planned their lives around what their wives earn. They claim they are one with their wives and claim that whatever their wives own belongs to them. This is anti-covenant. You and your wife are one by creation but you are different by covenant responsibility. So, you must rise up to the challenge of being a good and godly husband. You must understand that your call into the office of the husbandman is a call to greater responsibility. It is a call to a life of conquest. Always remember that God will appraise you on the basis of His word and not your wish. Be the main man and not the man-child.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to be the good shepherd to my wife and children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, prosper the works of my hands and let them bear fruits.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to be a responsible man, husband and father to my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I refuse to be a dependant husband but a good shepherd, providing for my wife and children because that is what defines my honour as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
