Let me share with you my personal encounter from the study of Jeremiah chapter 31. The encounter has helped my walk as a man, husband and father. The Scripture showed me the higher dimension of my calling as a shepherd. It brought new insight into my life and I am confident in God that as I read it, you will also be helped by the Holy Spirit to become the best of God to your wife and children. It is true that as a watchman over your wife and children, the attitude of your flocks may have led you to seek alternatives outside. In fact, you have gotten to your breaking point with them. Some people or even satan may have whispered to you to walk out of that ordained relationship with your wife (Mal.2:14) and children (Eph.6:4). Don’t be surprised if you are IN this situation. Even God Almighty got to this point with His flocks (Jer. 31:10). In Jer. 31:27-28, the Scripture says of God, behold the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. And it shall come to pass that like as I have watched over them, to pluck up, and to breakdown and to throw down and to destroy and to afflict.
So you can see that God was unhappy with the people of Israel and Judah. But God did something which He wants you to also do. He took the place of a watchman with the purpose of building His people up in the right ways again. God had a rethink, so you should. He reversed His anger against them in verse 28b of Jer.31. The Scripture says, so will I watch over them to BUILD and to PLANT, saith the LORD. However for you to watch to build, you need the grace of God. In Philippians 2:13, the Scripture says for it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. It pleases God when you watch over your wife and children. So when you connect to Him, He makes help available for you. You also need to seek for godly mentors and fellowship, where your life would be edified. And when you do these, God will honour you (I Tim.5:17). You will also enjoy favour from God (Pro.18:22). Your prayers would not be hindered (1Pet.3:7). You also will enjoy the glory of your children (Pro.17:6). God does not take pleasure in the destruction of your family. He enjoys seeing you and your sheep living and walking in harmony. It hurts Him when your sheepfold disintegrates. This is why you must watch with all watchfulness and seek His help to keep your sheepfold intact.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to build a strong and vibrant family fold.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver my family from the power of divorce and separation.
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to plant good seeds into the lives of my wife and children.
FAITH CONFESSION
I am persuaded by grace to plant and build my wife and children in good pleasures and secure my sheepfold because that is what defines my headship as a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
