Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Luke 1:59-63

More Scriptures: Lk.1:20, Ecc.4:12, Gen.2:24

And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child and they called him Zechariah after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said not so, but he shall be called John. And they said unto her, there is none of thy kindred that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father, how he would be called. And he asked for a writing table and wrote saying his name is John. And they marveled all. (Lk.1:59-63)

Imagine for a moment the scene at the covenant naming of John the Baptist. And consider the shock on the faces of the people when Zechariah, though dumb, and his wife Elizabeth, got the name of their son correctly. It is called connection. The Scripture study today was the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth. After a long wait for a child, God finally visited them and they had a child, named John the Baptist. Now when the child was born, he needed to be named. So his father was called upon to provide a name. Unfortunately, he couldn’t talk because in Lk.1:20, the Lord had made him dumb. Nonetheless, he asked for a writing table and wrote the name of his child-John. Prior to this, family members and relations suggested names that the new born would be called but the mother rejected the names suggested. However, Zechariah and Elizabeth were connected. As soon as he wrote the name the child would be called, his wife connected to it and immediately his mouth opened.

As the head of your family and the leader over your flock, connectedness to your wife is the foundation for your success in life, family and ministry, and business. Connecting to your wife strengthens the bond of unity. It makes life better and fulfilling, for the Bible says in Ecclesiastes chapter 4, that two are better than one and they have a reward for their labour. But you may want to ask, how do I connect with my wife? Firstly, you must deliberately seek ways to connect with her. And one way of doing this is by interceding for her, and extending your goodwill to her at all times. Secondly, you must fill your heart with the thoughts of the love of God. As you allow the love of God to flow in your heart, it will effortlessly extend to your wife through you. Thirdly, honour her. And as you get connected to her, your life will be filled with joy in the Holy Ghost, good health and an enduring legacy. God knows that there is power in connectedness, hence He empowered you to leave your mother and father and be joined to your wife (Gen.2:24). So, when you love your wife as Christ has loved the church, she connects to your spirit. And together, you walk to win.

FAITH CONFESSION

I open my heart to receive the love of Jesus and through it I extend His love to my flock and connect to them because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
