The True Measure Of The Husbandman

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Jn.15:1-3

More Scriptures: Gen.2:14, Col.3:19, Eph.6:4

If you are asked to measure yourself as the husbandman, what measuring standards would you employ? Do you measure up to the Biblical standards of who the husbandman is? Do your family members, friends and other husbands testify that you are the perfect example of a good and godly shepherd? If you stand before the judgment throne of God at the end of your journey on earth, can Jesus say to you “well done, thou good and faithful servant”?

Let us examine the following Bible passages and use them to measure the true value of the husband. And the Lord took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it (Gen.2:14). The will of God for every husband is to work with his hands and mind. God is a worker. Jesus Christ is also a worker. So, you have no excuse not to work. It is not only an abuse of privilege; it is a demotion to the value of the husbandman if you do not work. You must understand that you are the provider in your sheepfold. And as a man, it is ungodly for you to ask the parents of your wife to hand over their daughter to you and end up depending on her for your upkeep as well as the family’s. And Scripture warns that he that does not work must not eat (2Thess.3:10). So, are you working, earning a living that provides shelter, education, food and clothing to your wife and children? Or is it your wife that has taken your God-ordained responsibilities?

Husbands love your wife and be not bitter against her (Col.3:19). Do you love your wife? Have you demonstrated the character of the love of Jesus Christ as provided for in 1Cor.13:4-8? Do you still harbour bitterness and unforgiveness against your wife in your heart? Do you still wish you never married your wife? Are you a master or a servant to your wife? You must understand that God expects you to love your wife as Christ has loved the church (Eph.5:25). Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of a good and godly husband stooped low to wash His disciples’ feet. He protected them against abuse, hurt and attacks. That was service. That is the hallmark of the husbandman. And because you have the mind of Christ, you can truly love your wife as Christ has loved the church. And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). Have you relinquished your responsibilities as a father to your wife? How much godly influence and character do you exert on your children? Are you the kind of father that you would want your children to model their lives after? You must understand that your children are your seeds. They come from your loins. It is your job to take care of them.
