Baptized With Christ

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.20:20-23

More Scriptures: Eph.5:22, Gal.4:19, Eph.6:4

Then came to him the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping him and desiring a certain thing of him. And he said unto her, what wilt thou? She saith unto him, grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on thy right and the other on the left, in thy kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, we are able. And he said unto them, ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit on my right hand and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my father (Matt.20:20-23)

The above Scripture is quite long but I have decided to put it down because I believe that the Holy Spirit will minister to husbands through it. The mother of Zebedee’s children approached Jesus Christ and requested for something significant. She wanted a change of position for her sons. She wanted both sons to sit at the right and left side of Jesus in God’s kingdom. But Jesus asked both the mother and her children, “can you drink of the cup that I drink of and can you be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They exclaimed, “yes, we can”. Literally, He told them that every great position comes with its demands.

So, it is with you. The day you decided to leave your father and mother and be joined to your wife is the day you are baptized into the same responsibilities that Jesus Christ was baptized into. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of a good and godly husband. He represents the nature and character of a man, husband and father. He remains the best model for every husband. “Looking unto Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith”. The word of God commands you to love your wife as Christ has loved the Church and gave Himself for it (Eph.5:22). The Bible also commands you to nurture your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4). As the head of the family, you are baptized into faithfulness, fruitfulness, compassion, holiness, hospitality, the spirit of the fear of the Lord, a provider, protector, giver, a life of sacrifice and much more. Your decision to take a woman so that you can start a family comes with enormous covenant responsibilities. And this is the call into the office of the husbandman. The husbandhood is for men and not for boys. Therefore, rise above a mediocre husband and take your rightful place as a good and godly shepherd in your sheepfold.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to take charge of my sheep and sheepfold.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do Your will as a shepherd in my family.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to become a responsible man, husband and father to my sheep.

FAITH CONFESSION

I drink of the cup of Jesus Christ and I am baptized with the baptism of Jesus Christ because that is what I require to function as a good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
