Are you a husband reading this devotional and it seems your life is crashing and you do not know what to do? Does it appear as though your past mistakes are hurting you and affecting your relationship with your wife and children? Are you being daily reminded by satan whenever you get down to pray of the sins you committed that no one knows, not even your wife? Perhaps, you have committed adultery and your wife did not know. May be you got a lady pregnant and you forced her to abort it. It could also be that you joined a cult because you were desperate to become rich. It doesn’t matter whatever you may have done wrong in the past either before you become a husband or father and it matters less the extent of damage your mistake may have had on your health, state of mind, your peace, your prayer life and your relationship with your wife and children. There is hope for you. There is a new and a living way for you. Your sins can be forgiven. In fact, God is ever ready to extend mercies to you.
That is the story of David, the king of Israel, the husband of Abigail. He did the abominable. He had a sexual affair with the wife of one of his trusted soldiers. Not only did David commit adultery, he ensured that the adulteress’s husband was killed in the battle because he did not want her husband to know. Sadly, David was exposed. It appeared as though the world had come to an end for him. But he did something that attracted the mercies of God in his direction. And it is in the book of Psalms 51. And that is what God wants you to do right now.
Purify me from my sins and I will be clean. Wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Oh give me back my joy again. Do not keep looking at my sins. Remove the stain of my guilt. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and make me willing to obey you (Ps.51:7-12) NLT
God doesn’t want you to justify why you cheated on your wife. He also doesn’t want you to give reasons why you fall into sin. God wants you to be honest with Him. He wants you to walk to Him the same way a child will walk back to his or her earthly father, when they are wrong. Jesus loves you so much and He wants you to be useful and profitable to your wife, children and the world. He doesn’t hate you but He dislikes your sins. Return today; and I say return to Him today.
