You Are A Ransome For Your Sheep

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Matt.20:26-29

More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Eph.5:25, Jn.3:16

But it shall not be so among you but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister. And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant. Even so as the Son of man came not be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many (Matt.20:26-28)

The Scripture in Matt. 20:26 tells us that Jesus Christ give His life as a ransom for many. He paid the price so others can be free and be established. Now, note something very interesting in this passage. Jesus Christ is God. He was part of the God head that created the world and all that is in it (Gen.1:26-28, Jn.1:1-3). So, He had enormous power at His disposal. But He was not happy with the way man lived-a life of depravation, failure, and emptiness. And He knew that the only way to rescue humanity was to leave His comfort zone to the earth and pay the price for man’s rescue. And to the glory of God, we all have a hope of a better tomorrow both here and hereafter.

Now, that is what God expects of you as the head of the family. God wants you to be more interested in the well-being of your wife and children than even yourself. God wants you to break through the barriers to reach your sheep. God wants you to act like the good shepherd would to his sheep. God wants you to put your life on the line for your flock. This is why the Word of God commands every husband to love his wife and Jesus Christ has loved the church by laying down His life (Eph.5:25). For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son…. (Jn.3:16). If the meal before you is the last you would you eat and there is no other, give it to your sheep. If the only time you have to sleep is to stand in the gap in prayers for your wife and children, please pray. If you have only one car and you have to give it to your wife to make movement convenient for her while you walk, please do.

You must understand that as the head of your family, so much more is expected of you from God and your sheep. The day you take over the mantle of leadership in your family fold, you have entered into a covenant with God to do as Christ has done to the church (bride). This is the greatest benefit you enjoy when you live as a ransom for your flock. It is in Matt.20:29. And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. Your sheep are not blind. They know if you are a sacrificial leader or not. So, if you lay down your life and become a ransom they will follow you and your instructions. You become their role model. And they will sing your praises to all and your life inspires other husbands.
