Main Scriptures: Rom.15:1-6
More Scriptures: 2Cor.5:17, Jn.1:1, Rom.12:21
While I was in my quietness (time of meditation), my Teacher, the Person of the Holy Spirit began to teach me about the lessons every husband who desires to be good and godly could learn. And the more I listened to Him, the greater my excitement at the depth of the Spirit of God. At the Cross, Jesus lost His rights. Jesus had the rights to save Himself or call down the angels to deliver Him. But He did not. He had the right to call down fire from heaven to consume His persecutors and those who willfully nailed Him to the cross. But He did not. He had the right to curse the thief who accused Him wrongly. But He did not utter a word. Remember that He is God according to Scriptures. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God (Jn.1:1). Jesus Christ had everything at His disposal to exercise His rights against those who hurt Him and for whom He had advantage over but He did not.
Now, this is the lesson for you as the head of your family and the shepherd over your wife and children. There are certain rights that you have that you can exercise as the head over your wife and children. You can exercise your rights to assault them physically by reason of your size. You can decide not to forgive them for the offence that they have committed against you. You can in fact hold back some of the benefits that you think is due to them whenever they hurt you very badly. You can decide not to provide the house keeping allowance or even pay your children’s school fees. There are so many ways you can take revenge against your sheep. However, as an appointee of God through Jesus Christ, you have a different nature that makes you behave like Jesus Christ to your wife and children. You have the mind of Christ. And this means that though you have the power to walk the path of hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness and revenge, you decide to walk the path of righteousness. That is the lesson of the Cross for you.
So, for you live out the lessons from the Cross, you must acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ in your life. When He becomes Lord in your life, He empowers you to be like Him; His nature flows into you as your old ways give way for a new way of living. If any be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new (2Cor.5:17). Secondly, you must feed your spirit man on a daily basis with the word of God. God’s word is His nature hence the more of His word that you take in the stronger your inner man becomes and that will empower you to overcome evil with good (Rom.12:21).
