Abound More In Knowledge

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Phil.1:9-11

More Scriptures: 1Pet.3:7, Jn.8:32, Rom.1:16

And this is my prayer; that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ-to the glory and praise of God (Philp.1:9-12) NIV

I was in the car on my way home from work when I came in contact with this Scripture from Philippians chapter one (1). I had read this passage many times over but this time, I saw a depth I have never known before. And that is what I want to share with every husband. As the head of the family, the will of God for you is to grow in the knowledge of the truth about your sheep. God does not want you to lead your flock ignorantly because that is what satan uses to hold you bondage. Satan, your adversary, thrives on ignorance; he takes advantage of people who do not know. This is why it is very important for you to continue to increase in the knowledge of the truth about your position as the head of your family and the leader in your family-fold.

In our main text today, Paul’s expectation was for you to abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight. This means that you must keep sharpening your relationship skills on how to lead yourself, your wife and children through the word of God. God’s word provides you with the way to handle your sheep. It also exposes to you the expectations of your wife and children. With the knowledge of the truth at work in your life, there will be less friction between you and your flock. See what the Scripture says about knowledge. And you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free (Jn.8:32). Your wife and children are not as difficult as you think or as they appear. You have not abounded enough in knowledge of the truth of how God wants you to treat them. And husbands deal with thy wife according to knowledge…. (1Pet.3:7).

So, what are the benefits of abounding in the knowledge of how to handle your flock? You enjoy peace of mind and quality relationship with your sheep. Secondly, it empowers you to overcome the offer of bitterness, unforgiveness, malice and other such ungodly habits that satan may be throwing at you when your flock have disappointed you. Why? Because you know better. However, you must not seek knowledge that subdues and oppresses your sheep. This is because God did not make you the head of your family to be a slave driver. Rather, God put you in your sheepfold to be an example of how Jesus Christ served His disciples. Therefore, the knowledge you seek must be pure. It is more powerful than beating and more enduring than the rudiments of the world.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to lead my wife and children wisely.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from taking foolish steps.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to continue to seek You in all things for my flock.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take responsibility to seek to know from the word of God, how to handle my wife and children in all circumstances because that is what makes me a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
