The Regenerated Husband

Jesus answered, verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit (Jn.3:5-6)

You cannot chew carnality and spew spirituality. You cannot be filled with carnality and expect to behave spiritually. That is the word of the Lord for a husband reading today’s devotional. You cannot dwell on the things that do not edify God and expect to behave like a godly husband to your wife and children. This is so important for you because you are essentially spiritual and it would require the building of your spiritual man to sustain your relevance as the head of the family. Everything that God commands you to do to your wife and children are first spiritually conceived before they can be expressed physically. For instance, to demonstrate the nature of Christ to your wife must first begin in your heart. Kindness, compassion, goodwill, faith, hope, forbearance and temperance are fruits that gain its root in your heart. And this is why the word of God tells us in Rom.10:10 that with the heart man believes and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. So, if your spirit man is not renewed and regenerated, you cannot function at the peak of your calling as the head of the family.

The Bible tells us in Job that there is a spirit man…. It is that spirit man that gives expression to your walk and work as a husband. So, how would you regenerate your spirit man? The first step for you is to give your life to Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord and personal savior. Jesus Christ is the perfect example of good and godly husband. He has given you a mandate to lead your wife and children in the way and admonition of the Lord. You represent Him in your family fold. Your godly life and conduct is all that your flock requires to appreciate and understand the very nature of Jesus Christ. The second step is to give attention to the study of the word of God. The more of the word of God you have in you, the more your spirit man grows to be strong and undeterred in the face of the challenges you may be having with your flock. The Scripture has this to say. If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature….. And furthermore, Apostle Paul says, that I may know him and the power of His salvation. You must seek to know Him more and more. The third step is for you to intensify your prayer life. Prayer gives expression to your expectation to be spiritual. And when you do these, your wife and children will honour you through and through.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man to be fed with the truth of Your word.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to take responsibility for my spiritual growth.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me not be weary of feeding my spirit man with the truth of Your word.

I am born of the Spirit and I live by the Spirit of God in making my calling as a good and godly husband sure in Jesus Name. Amen.
