The Incredible Power Of The Father

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ezk.35:5-6

More Scriptures: Col.3:21, Deut.6:7, Gen.18:19

If you are a father reading this devotional today, I want you to be excited. There is power in you and God wants you to maximize it to the advantage of your children. You are so powerful that if you can take your rightful place as the father in your sheep fold, your voice will forever be loudest in the lives of your children. Consider this Scripture and you will be glad that God has made you a father. And I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites pots full of wine and cups and I said unto them, drink ye wine. But they said , we will not drink no wine, for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us to, saying ye shall not drink no wine, neither ye , not your sons forever (Jer.35:5-6). Despite it was the prophet who commanded them to drink wine, the power of their father was louder than any other voices. And this why the Scripture in Jn.10:27 says this. My sheep hear my voice and I know them and they follow me.

As a father, you must understand that your children are seeds from the Lord. God has given them to you so that they can be fruitful and godly. And so you have the responsibility to know how to handle them and treat them as the seeds that the Lord has blessed (Is.61:9).  As a father, you can influence the attitude of your children positively. You can mould the destiny of your children to become instruments of exploits. However, you must be very careful how you treat them, even if you are their father. “Fathers provoke not your children to anger, lest they be DISCOURAGED (Col.3:21).  If you do not want your children to be discouraged and to see you as a burden, be firm but fair.

Some of the ways you can exercise authority over your children and help them to walk in the way and admonition of the Lord is by speaking graceful words to them, even when they have obviously failed you. The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary……(Is.50:4a). You do not have any excuse to give for speaking words that hurt your children and destroy their self-esteem. God has empowered you to speak words that will inspire, empower and motivate your seeds towards becoming seeds of righteousness. One of the major ways you can put your tongue under control and refrain from speaking destructive words is by living ready. This means that you must be spiritually awake by consistently praying for yourself so that when the challenges with your children show up, you will not speak wrong but put your  tongue under control (Lk.18:1). You are a positive influence to your children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the name of Jesus, empower my tongue to speak graceful words to my children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to keep my prayer altar burning at all times.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower my spirit man to put my tongue under control.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have control over my tongue by the Spirit of God and therefore I speak words in season to my children as a good and godly father in Jesus Name. Amen.
