Today’s message is an admonition to every husband who wants to be a good and godly head of his family. As the head of the family, you take most of the decisions in your sheepfold. All instructions flows from you to your sheep (Ps.133:1-3). In the course of the decisions you take, you communicate by your words and conduct and it may be positive or negative. So, this is the question you must sincerely answer in order to assess if you are indeed a goodly and godly shepherd. And that is what the Scripture tells us in Philippians 4. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things (Philp.4:9) NIV
You must speak lovely things to and about your sheep. You must always weigh what you do and say to your wife and children so as to determine if they are in line with the word of God in Philippians chapter 4 and verse 8. You are representing Jesus Christ, the perfect example of a good and godly husband, to your sheep. Jesus Christ wants you to reflect His very image and likeness to your flock. You are like Him in every respect. The Bible describes Him as the Bridegroom and He acted like one to His disciples and the church (Eph.5:25). And so He wants you to do the same. Before you lift your hands to physically beat up your wife because she has offended you, think again. Is it excellent and admirable? Before you open your mouth to call your wife or children unprintable names, think again if it is lovely. Would Jesus Christ, whom you want to imitate, do things that are unlovely, unholy, false and wicked to His bride? Well, the answer is no. So, if you are like Him you must function like He did.
For you to be able to do things that are of good report to your sheep, you must be born again. This means accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal Saviour. You must understand that Jesus Christ is the only Person that can empower you to be like Him to your flock. Without Him you will struggle to live up to the expectation of your office as the husbandman. He has given you and I a road map of a good and godly husband because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Therefore, if you have not received Jesus into your heart, please see the back page of this devotional and pray the prayer of salvation. Thereafter, you must consciously take your time to know Him by giving attention to His word and all that He commands you to do in your capacity as a man, husband and father (2Cor.5:17, Deut.28:1). Your wife and children and the world are looking up to you for godly influence. Be the shining example to them and let the name of Jesus be glorified in your life (Matt.5:14-16)
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
· Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me to do what is good and lovely to my sheep.
· Father, in the name of Jesus, fill my heart with godly and lovely thoughts toward my flock
· Father, in the name of Jesus, let Your love gain root in my heart and bear fruits outward.

I give myself to think, imagine, do and act on those things are of good report before God and my wife and children because I am determined to be a good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
