The Value Of Time Investment

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Deut.6:1-9

More Scriptures: Eph.6:4, Ps.78:4-6, Gen.18:19

I made some commitments long before I became a father. And that was that I will be there for my children all the way. I will invest my time into their lives as much as I invest my financial and material resources. And I can testify that I have seen tremendous benefits of the commitments, which I also call time investment in the lives of my children. As the head of the family, you must realize that your children are your seeds. They came from your loins. So it is very important for you to appreciate that your greatest investment into them is not the money you have stashed in bank accounts. It is also not in the properties you have built for them. In fact, it is not even in the quality of secular education that you give them. Your greatest investment is the quality of time you invest into their lives at their young age and unto their adult life. From our main text today, particularly verse 7, the Bible has this to say and you shall whet and sharpen them so as to make penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the minds and hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.

From the above Bible passages, you would note that you have no excuse to give for not having time for your children. As the head of the family and the father of your children, you must keep investing your time into the lives of your children. And that is what your children understand as love. To love your children is more than taking them to amusement parks or restaurants. It is far more than sending them on vacations abroad. If you sincerely love your seeds, you must dedicate your time into their lives. It could be that five minutes you have with them at dinner or when you drive them to school or church. It could just be that ten minutes of your time that you spend with them asking about their school work, their dreams and ambitions. During this moment of your interaction with them, you teach and impress on them the word of God. The Word of God is the power of God that can keep your children from the corruption of this generation. You must be like the wise farmer, who jealously guards and invests his time to ensure that the seeds that he has planted grow and develop into fruitful harvests. As the father and the person God has given the responsibility to train your children in the way and admonition of the Lord (Eph.6:4), you must continue to make time for your children. You must deliberately spend time with them and make it worthwhile because that is what they will remember most. Remember that you are ordained to be a good and godly father. Make it count positively in the lives of your children.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me the wisdom to allocate my time for my children.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to manage my time and my life to make the most of my existence as a father.

·         Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to make the most of my calling as a father.

FAITH CONFESSION

I have made up my mind to invest my scarce time into the lives of my wife and children because that is what secures my heritage as a good and godly father in Jesus Name. Amen.
