THE SHEPHERD’S PASTURE (1)

Spread the love

Main Scriptures: Ps.100:1-3

More Scriptures: Ps.23:2, 1Tim.5:7-8, 1Tim.2:15

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God. It is he that hath made us and not we ourselves. We are his people and the sheep of his pasture. (Ps.100:1-3)

Every shepherd has a sheep. And every sheep graze on the pasture provided by the shepherd. This is so important because as the head of your family and the spiritual authority over your wife and children, you cannot afford to lead your sheep without providing a pasture for them. From the Scripture, it is obvious that you are the sheep and God is the Shepherd. So, you are His sheep and He has also provided for you pasture. And since you are made in His image and likeness (Gen.1:26-28), then you have the virtue of the good shepherd in you.

But what is a pasture? A pasture is a land that is covered by grass that is suitable for feeding animals. As a shepherd, I want you to note three vital points that will enhance your position as the head of your family. The first is that a pasture is a location or a place. The second is that a pasture is covered with grass. Thirdly, the grass is suitable for the sheep to feed on. So, it is the shepherd that provides the location where the sheep can go to graze and the grass must be beneficial to the sheep. Your headship puts you in a leadership position to lead your wife and children. It also puts on you the responsibility to feed your sheep with all round provisions-the word of God, finance, healthcare, protection and guidance. Your headship does not just end with the fact that you are the head of the family or being called the husband. Your true value actually starts when you are truly the provider and consistently so. (1Tim.5:7-8).

In Ps.23:2-3, the Scripture gives you the kind of pasture that you must provide for your sheep. It says that the Lord is my shepherd and this is what He did. You have bedded me down in lush meadows, you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction (Ps.23:2-3) MSG. So, can your wife and children find comfort and peace in you, with you and through you? Can they be confident that they will be satisfied with you as their leader? Have you created the right environment for them to flourish in their spirit, soul and body? If your answers are in the negative, they will go elsewhere to graze. And that is when you lose your authority, influence and respect.

SPIRITUAL EXERCISE

  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, deliver me from I-too-know spirit and give me the heart of a learner.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, guide me through Your word by Your Spirit.
  • Father, in the Name of Jesus, give me hearing ears and seeing eyes and help me to discover wonders from Your word.

FAITH CONFESSION

I take full responsibility to learn from my Bible about the mind of God concerning my wife and children because that is what empowers me to reign as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
