Jesus gives a resounding verdict on the subject of adultery. The people asked him to give His perspective on the subject of adultery. And this is what He says….that whosoever looketh on a woman lustfully has committed already in his heart (Matt.5:28). And this speaks to every husbandman reading this devotional through all the available platforms. It is possible to have your wife around you and with you and still be mentally involved with another woman. This is called monogamous physically and polygamous mentally.
So how does this happen? Many husbands are addicted to pornography while others have lusted after another woman in their heart. It is so bad that some husbands even while making love to their wives physically, they are mentally far away in fantasy with another woman. So many husbands are so lost in thought, thinking about another woman that is not their wife. These husbands form sexual images in their minds. This is a sin and God hates it. In fact, it is a clear case of adultery. Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband, said so. And it is in your best interest to believe Jesus Christ.
It is a fact that sometimes negative thoughts will flood your mind. But it is a Scriptural truth that you can control what is permitted to gain access into your mind. What this means is that you must guard your heart even as you guide it on what to see and hear. As the head of the family, you cannot guard your mind and heart unless and until you have been able to guide the ears and eyes of your mind. And this requires two key actions you must take. The first step is for you to be mindful of what you read. You must understand that behind every writing or letter is a spirit. And the spirit entered into me when the Lord spake unto me. (Ezk.2:2). Words that are out in writing carries the spirit of the writer. You will not notice that the very day you start giving attention to watching or reading pornographic materials, you will realize a new urge to seek the lap of another woman. So, it is with the other areas of life. Secondly, you must guide your ears on what it listens to. Your ears are a major gateway to your heart and because your mind is the birthplace of your actions, you cannot afford to listen to anything.
Therefore, on a daily basis, you must take in the word of God because it has the cleansing power. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word (Eph.5:26). You must also speak in the Holy Ghost on a daily basis for direction on what to read, who to meet and where to go. You must keep pleading the power in the blood of Jesus Christ (Rev.12:11). Your life is much more important to God than the pleasure of sin. You are the godly husband. Be faithful to God, your wife, children and the people looking up to you for influence.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, purge me from every spirit of immorality.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, baptize me with the Spirit of holiness.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, empower me with boldness to resist sin and the temptation.
FAITH CONFESSION
I overcome the lust of the eyes and flesh and walk in holiness and righteousness because that is what makes me the good and godly husband to my wife and children in Jesus Name. Amen.
