Main Scriptures: 2Timothy 2:19-21
More Scriptures: Ps.51:10, 1Tim.6:12, Heb.12:23
There is the need for you to continue to purge yourself by the word of God. This is because as the good shepherd there are so many things that easily want to corrupt your thoughts. As the head of the family and the spiritual authority at home, it is very important for you to continue to purge your life just the same way you take your car for servicing from time to time in order to maintain the health condition of the car. You are the shepherd over your flock; hence it is very important for you to cleanse your life on a continued basis to enhance the quality of your life and by extension that of your relationship between your wife, children and yourself. Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. And let everyone that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honour, and some to dishonor. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 2Tim.2:19-21.
It is very important for you to develop a system of self-evaluation because you cannot continue to do the same thing and expect a different result. God has called you into a position of honour and not dishonor. And for you to be a honourable husband, you must give yourself to daily purging. In Ps.51:10, David, prayed a simple but powerful prayer God, and I will admonish you to make the prayer point your daily dose. He said create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me (Ps.51:10). But what does it take to purge yourself so that you can become a better husband to your wife and children and even the world around you? First, you must admit that you do not know everything. This is why the Scriptures say in Php.3:12 not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect, but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. One of the enemies you must fight is that of I know it all. If you look at the Scripture, it says not that I have already attained. So, there is so much to learn about your role as the godly man, husband, father. And as you become teachable, you become better as the head of the family. The second thing that you must do is to give attention to studying the Word of God and other anointed materials. You cannot be better than what you know, and you cannot be greater than the knowledge available to you. When you do these things, God will use you mightily to be a good and influential leader to your wife and children and the world around you.
