Main Scriptures: Ezk.44:11
More Scriptures: Col.1:29, 1Pet.5:8, Mk.14:27
The second revelation is for you to take charge at the gates. Now, I want you to note something very striking about this statement from the passage of the Bible. It did not say in the gates. It says at the gates. So, your watch actually starts at the door of your sheepfold and that is why you are called the gatekeeper. Whatever you decide to stop at the gate cannot gain access into your sheepfold. Your principal activity at the gate is vigilant watch in being sensitive to the things of the Spirit and the happenings around you. This is important because according to the Word of God, satan your adversary goes about looking for whom he may devour (1Pet.5:8). Jesus Christ, who is the perfect example of how the good and godly husband is to conduct himself, says that if you strike the shepherd, the sheep will scatter (Mk.14:27). Do not ever let down your guard. You must remember that you are the custodian of the lives of your wife and children. And as the shepherd, God wants you to be the good and godly shepherd. He doesn’t want your sheep or sheepfold to scatter. He wants you to raise a good and godly wife and children. God wants you to be responsible and accountable. He has made you a territorial authority, having command and control over your sheepfold. You must not betray the trust that God has reposed in you. Lead from the front and watch at the gates.
One of the ways you can strengthen your ability to see and hear and discern positive influences from negative influences is by praying the word of God into your life. The more of the word of God that you feed your spirit man with and thereafter engage in, the sharper your ability to detect wolves in sheep clothing who may want to gain entrance through the gate of your sheepfold. In Heb.4, the Bible has this to say. The word of God is quick and powerful and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb.4:12b). The Scripture says that you should allow the word of God to dwell richly in you (Col.3:16). So, with the word of God working in you, you are empowered to know the type of relationships you must allow into your home and ungodly habits that must be stopped at the gates before they gain entrance into your home and affect your sheep negatively.
And as you keep watch at the gates of your sheepfold, your sheep will not hear the voice of strangers. Rather, your voice will be loudest in their lives. Also, your sheep will respect and honour you because they are assured of the protective covering of their shepherd. Finally, you become a good example to other husbands, bringing glory to God.
Be on guard because that is what gives value to your headship.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, I receive the grace to be a perpetual student of Your word.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make Your word effectual in my life and help me to rule with it.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, let the Spirit of the word give me direction and boldness.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have received power from God and through His Spirit to study the WORD OF GOD as a lifestyle and I rule my sheep and sheepfold by it because that is what I require to function as the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
