Yet they shall BE MINISTERS IN MY SANCTUARY, having CHARGE AT THE GATES OF THE HOUSE, and ministering to the house, they shall SLAY THE BURNT OFFERING and the sacrifice for the people and they shall STAND BEFORE THEM TO MINISTER unto them. (Ezk.44:11)
Yesterday, the Person of the Holy Spirit opened our understanding as heads of our sheepfolds to see where we must take position from. He said that you and I must watch at the gates, which represents the access into our sheepfold. And if we can guard our gates, it will be impossible for satan, the world and sin to gain access into our sheepfold and influence our sheep negatively. Today, let us consider the third demand. The Scripture says the Levite must SLAY THE BURNT OFFERING. What this means is that you lead the way in the worship of God, teaching and influencing your wife and children for God. In 1Sam.1, the Bible tells us that Elkanah, the husband of Hannah, lead his household to offer burnt offerings and worship at Shiloh. Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of mount Ephraim and his name was Elkanah…….and this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh…… and the man Elkanah and all his house went up to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice and his vow (1Sam.1:1,3,21). As the head of your family, you are the spiritual leader in your home. The spiritual wellbeing of your sheep and sheepfold is your responsibility. In fact, you lead by example spiritually. For instance, you must lead your wife and children to church, you must lead them to pray and fast. You must lead them to give. You must lead them to serve God and humanity. It is not a mark of godly leadership for you to drop off your wife and children in church while you go home to sleep, watch sports or movies. It doesn’t project you as the good and godly husband to be eating while your wife and children are fasting. You lose your spiritual authority and command if your wife is the one who prays while you sleep.
God wants your light of spirituality to shine before your sheep. Let your light so shine before men that they may see and glorify God your Father (Matt.5:14-16). Jesus Christ, the perfect example of the good and godly husband gives you and I a perfect model to follow. While He was with the disciples, He led them in Word study, prayers, fasting and other spiritual demands. There was no time that He abdicated His spiritual responsibility to His sheep. This explains the honour, respect and worship He enjoyed from His disciples. God has sent you to provide for your family (1Tim.5:7-8) and one of the major provisions is spiritual nourishment. And if you can take charge of the spiritual atmosphere of your life and sheepfold, you can influence the decisions and thoughts of your sheep for good and for God.
SPIRITUAL EXERCISE
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, help me to lead my wife and children in all spiritual matters.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, make me to be a good and godly example to my sheep.
- Father, in the Name of Jesus, teach me how to war on my knees steadfastly.
FAITH CONFESSION
I have received power from God and through His Spirit to lead my wife and children in all spiritual matters because that is what makes me the good and godly husband in Jesus Name. Amen.
